Bus

Navigating by Bus

Public buses are an incredibly popular way to get around Hong Kong, offering a scenic and comprehensive network that reaches almost every corner of the city. The service is run by a few major franchised operators: KMB (Kowloon Motor Bus), which mostly covers Kowloon and the New Territories; Citybus, which handles Hong Kong Island and cross-harbor routes; and Long Win Bus and New Lantao Bus, which connect the airport, major ports, and Lantau Island.

Accessibility Features

Wheelchair Bay & Ramp

When it comes to accessibility, the network is highly reliable. Around 99% of the massive double-decker fleet features low-floor entry models equipped with a kneeling function to bring the bus closer to the curb. Every accessible bus has a flip-out manual ramp at either the front or middle doors that the driver will personally deploy for you, alongside a dedicated wheelchair bay inside fitted with safety belts.

Special Reminder: While almost every bus is physically accessible, most vehicles only have a single designated wheelchair parking space. Because of this, it is highly recommended to avoid the frantic peak commuting hours (7:00–9:00 AM and 5:00–7:00 PM), as you may occasionally have to wait for the next bus if the space is already occupied.

KMB App

If you plan to use the bus network during your trip, downloading KMB’s official app, App1933, is a very helpful tool for planning your day. Along with real-time arrival countdowns, the app features a built-in capacity counter that displays the designated wheelchair layout of the arriving vehicle before it pulls up to your stop. While the majority of the fleet accommodates a single wheelchair passenger, KMB has been progressively rolling out newer models equipped with two dedicated wheelchair spaces.
